Paulino Alvarez, MD, has accepted the position of Interim Director of the Cardiomyopathy Section, effective July 1. Alvarez graduated from the Universidad René Favaloro Medical School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed an internal medicine residency at Instituto Universitario CEMIC in Buenos Aires, and a cardiology residency at Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martin, University of Buenos Aires. In the US, Alvarez completed an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas and a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplantation at the Cleveland Clinic. Since joining University of Iowa Health Care faculty in 2017, Alvarez has played a central role in all aspects of the heart failure, transplantation, and advanced mechanical circulatory support programs.
