Professor of Internal Medicine, Bioengineering, and Radiology Geoffrey McLennan, MBBS, FRACP, PhD, was the founding director of the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging, which he led for five years until his death in 2010. He also led the Interventional Pulmonology Services for Iowa’s Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine. A couple years after his passing, the division launched a named lecture series in his honor, bringing pulmonary luminaries from around the world to showcase research and clinical work that carries on the same spirit that animated McLennan.
Last week, the division invited Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology Jason D. Christie, MD, MSCE, chief of the pulmonary division at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Christie’s presentation on primary graft dysfunction following lung transplantation can be viewed here.
But first Christie was introduced by Iowa’s Pulmonary Chief David Stoltz, MD, PhD, who welcomed McLennan’s wife, Christine, and one of McLennan’s trainees, Professor of Radiology Jessica Sieren, PhD. Stoltz shared anecdotes about McLennan and photos, while also situating his legacy as an international trailblazer in biomedical imaging.
After Christie’s presentation, he fielded questions from the audience, spoke one-on-one with audience members, and then posed for a quick photo.
