We regularly think of our medical school and residency program graduates as becoming ambassadors of Iowa when they leave. Their intelligence, skill, and refined talent stand as testament to what training in Iowa City can produce. We are excited by the results of this year’s fellowship match; our graduating residents will become Hawkeye Ambassadors to some relatively new and prestigious institutions.
The map above shows where Internal Medicine residents went from 2012 to 2017. As can be seen below, when we update this map, schools like New York University, Duke University, and the University of North Carolina will be added to an already impressive list. (UPDATE: That new map can be seen here.) Even more impressively, 100% of our residents pursuing fellowships matched with either their first or second choices. We are also proud and pleased that—not counting our rising Chief Residents—7 of these 19 residents chose to remain at the University of Iowa, pursuing a variety of subspecialties.
We could not be prouder of our residents. Their success speaks to the quality of those entering our residency program as much as it does the diligence and passion of those educators who are lucky enough to work with them while they are here.
