Bates’ Guide Gets IntMed Voice

Four years of labor for Dr. Richard Hoffman are about to come to fruition when the 12th edition of the Bates’ Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking is released next month. Dr. Hoffman joined the editorial team as a guest editor, writing two chapters, including a new one on evaluating clinical evidence, and writing the health promotion and counseling sections for 12 other chapters.

For students in health profession training programs throughout the world, the Bates’ Guide is one of the most used step-by-step guides for performing accurate, efficient, and effective patient interviews and physical examinations. Dr. Hoffman was invited in order to expand the textbook’s focus on clinical reasoning and health promotion, using principles of clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine. He welcomed the opportunity “to introduce these concepts to a broad range of health professionals at the early stages of their training.” Congratulations to Dr. Hoffman for his work on this prestigious publication!
