Effective September 1, Sherry Mattison will be the Executive Assistant to Interim Chair & DEO Isabella Grumbach, MD, PhD, a position most recently held by Stacie Vik. In this role, Mattison will manage the Chair’s office, overseeing a number of essential administrative functions in addition to providing some support to the department’s executive leadership team.
Mattison is currently an Administrative Services Coordinator in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, in which she supports daily operations, managing multiple faculty members’ calendars, providing accounting services, arranging travel for faculty, guest speakers, and recruits, and organizing a variety of division functions, including CME sessions and division Grand Rounds. In her three years with the division, she earned a reputation for professionalism, precision in communication, and creative problem-solving as part of a team.
Mattison joined University of Iowa Health Care in 2014 as a supply chain associate, familiarizing herself with the institution and its various systems, even supervising and mentoring student support staff. But Mattison was not a stranger to the unique needs of an academic medical center before formally joining Iowa. She has also worked as a travel consultant with Winebrenner Red Carpet Travel, an approved vendor of travel arrangements for members of the university system, booking flights, hotels, and cars in compliance with Big 10 regulations.
“Sherry is an accomplished, results-oriented administrative professional with a proven record of attention to detail,” said Denise Zang, MBA, Clinical Department Administrator. “We are fortunate to be able to keep her in the department in this new role.”
