GOLDrush: Dr. Donald D. Brown and Judy K. Barkalow Faculty Support Fund in Cardiology

Matt Ryerson/The Daily Iowan Dr. Donald Brown demonstrates a heart examination on "Harvey" the manikin on April 12, 2006. The manikin simulates different heart beats for training students and doctors how to interpret different heart conditions such as heart murmurs.

For 50 years, Donald Brown, MD, has served the University of Iowa, the Carver College of Medicine, the Department of Internal Medicine and the people of this state wearing many different hats. He is a cardiologist, a colleague, a recruitment champion, a teacher and a mentor, a leader, and a friend. Now after five decades he is swapping out a couple of those hats for a new one, legacy cementer.

The GOLDRush Campaign for the Dr. Donald D. Brown and Judy K. Barkalow Faculty Support Fund in Cardiology is off to a strong start with about a month remaining. The fund will benefit medical and physician assistant educators, the core of what drove Brown himself for decades.
