The Department of Internal Medicine is pleased to welcome Karley Wahl, PHR, who joins our Human Resources team as an HR Generalist. Wahl has more than 11 years’ experience in private sector human resources, specializing in issues related to compensation and compliance, systems design and information technology, recruitment, training, and risk management. Wahl will pick up duties handled by the just-departed Stacy Pruter, serving as point-of-contact for issues related to staff recruitment and onboarding.
Before coming to the University of Iowa, Wahl was a Human Resources Administrator with BRL Human Resources & Payroll Consulting, an area firm providing administrative and consulting services to businesses in multiple states and small start-up companies, outsourcing their human resources needs to better concentrate on growth. With more than 35 separate client companies and three internal colleagues reporting directly to her, Wahl gained exposure to a vast variety of customer needs and practices as well as management experience in her four years there.
Wahl received her BA in Business Administration with an emphasis in computer informational systems and business management development. She then gained experience in a health care setting working with another private practice management partner, KASA Practice Solutions, which manages patient scheduling, insurance and billing for private practice therapists, psychologists, and counselors. Wahl helped providers and patients navigate the complicated world of verifications, approvals, and billing, interacting with more than 100 different insurance companies.
Director of Human Resources for Internal Medicine Rethy Krishnamurthy, SHRM-SCP, says that she is excited to have Wahl join the team. “Karley has a lot of experience considering diverse viewpoints, while keeping an eye on organizational priorities and policies. She will make important contributions to our team.”
Wahl is excited to join the department. “The moment I walked through the door; I knew that Internal Medicine holds a vital spot at the University of Iowa. I’m happy to support such a diverse sector that focuses on everyone’s personal growth and satisfaction.” Outside of work, Wahl enjoys traveling and exploring the outdoors (either by hiking trails or kayaking as weather allows), painting and training at the gym. She is an Iowa native with family all over the state but is particularly close to her niece and nephews located here in Iowa City.
