2024 Research Day Winners’ presentations

Every year the winners of the poster session at the previous fall’s Internal Medicine Research Day are invited to deliver oral presentations of their work to the department’s Grand Rounds. Late last month, the four winners showed the audience in Medical Alumni Auditorium and those attending virtually the breadth and depth of the department’s research footprint. Two presenters examined aspects of health services research, streamlining clinics to improve quality care for people with vasculitis and better understanding the needs for ultrasound services of a clinic in Uganda. Another pair assessed the ability of diet to improve outcomes for people with multiple sclerosis and whether a particular cellular protein could serve as a new therapeutic target in treating diabetes-related obesity.

The current co-chairs of Research Day, Marcelo Correia, MD, MSc, PhD, and Bhagirath Chaurasia, MSc, PhD, both in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, also each spoke briefly about the high quality of not only these winners but of all those who submitted abstracts to last fall’s event. They encouraged the next co-chairs, who will organize the 2025 and 2026 Internal Medicine Research Days, and offered their assistance in this first year of transition.
