This Saturday, the annual Kickoff to Kinnick 5K Run/Walk (K2K) will find hundreds of racers and their friends and family cheering them on as they cross the finish line in the Hawkeyes football stadium. Proceeds from the K2K will go to the UI Dance Marathon, an organization that has raised tens of millions of dollars for pediatric oncology patients and their families.
One other, quieter fundraiser will also be taking place during the K2K run this weekend. The Race Against Resistance 2017 features multiple teams of runners raising money for the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). SHEA is working to slow the emergence of resistant bacteria and its Education & Research Foundation provides scholarships for antibiotic stewardship education and training. Team Iowa, a mix of Infectious Diseases specialists and epidemiologists, will contribute toward the Race Against Resistance goal.
