Welcome New Fellows 2018

As important as it is to properly say farewell to our graduating fellows and residents, it can be just as important to welcome each new incoming class. Though there are plenty of trainings and tours, compliances and documents just waiting to greet them, many fellowship training programs also try to schedule something a little less onerous.

In the last week, three divisions held two events to welcome members of four different fellowship programs. (It should be noted that other divisions have held events that we were unable to attend.) The Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation produced plates of pastries for an early-morning sit down with many members of the faculty, staff, and the current Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellows. This gave the new class of fellows a chance to informally chat and introduce themselves over the course of an hour. They also posed for a group photo, which one faculty member joked could serve as their “before picture.”

Just up a floor and a couple days earlier, the Divisions of Immunology and of Endocrinology and Metabolism hosted the new Allergy-Immunology, Rheumatology, and Endocrine fellows for an ice-cream social. The fellows went around the room and introduced themselves, using squares of toilet paper as a guide for just how many unique facts they had to share. The two Division Directors, Dr. Scott Vogelgesang and Dr. Dale Abel, also offered words of welcome.

After posing for some group photos with their respective classes, the Allergy and Rheumatology fellows packed up the ice cream and toppings and headed off to the Medicine Specialty Clinic for a brief introduction to their respective team members there. One more stop for the Allergy fellows was in the Pediatric Specialty Clinic, where they will also train.
