Recruitment raffle baskets

When I first started planning for recruitment season, I finally realized how much time and energy the residents put into helping the applicants have an informative and enjoyable interview day. From attending dinners prior to interview day, to giving tours of the hospital, to coming and chatting with them during the morning, it takes a village to make recruitment season happen. The residents do this willingly and with unparalleled enthusiasm.

The one constant feedback we got from the applicants this year was how much they enjoyed talking to the residents and how the camaraderie among the residency program was evident. As a way for program leadership to show our appreciation for these efforts, we decided to host a ‘Recruitment Raffle’ at the end of interview season. Each time a resident attended a pre-interview dinner or gave a recruitment tour, their name will be entered into the raffle. For example, if a resident attended two pre-interview dinners and gave two recruitment tours, their name would be entered into the raffle four times.

We will pick one winner each day at noon conference to choose from a selection of prizes, ranging from a ‘Pizza Night’ gift basket to a ‘Game Night’ gift basket. We hope this is a small way to show our residents how grateful we are for their help and participation this past recruitment season! I wouldn’t have been able to put together the raffle without the support of the residency team, especially Dr. Manish Suneja, Dr. Katie Harris, Dr. Gwen Beck, Dr. Justin Smock, Dr. Krista Johnson, Dr. Brian Gehlbach, Cindy Batzkiel, and my co-chiefs.
