2020-21 Chief Residents Announced

The following is a statement from Residency Program Director Dr. Manish Suneja.

It is with great pride that I announce the 2020-21 Chief Residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.

The Chief Residents are chosen for their leadership skills, moral integrity, and clinical acumen and are the most representative faces of the Internal Medicine Residency Program for the year. The Chief Residency represents the largest investment in leadership made by the Department, but the return on this investment is immeasurable.

We look forward to our Chief Residents serving as teachers, role models, and colleagues to our residents. Please join us in congratulating Nick, Amanda, Matt, and Roger on their success! We look forward to their leadership.

Dr. Suneja also asked them to briefly describe why they were interested in the position of Chief Resident and what they hope to accomplish in the role. We will feature a longer introduction to the new Chiefs when they formally take office next year.

Being born and raised in the Midwest, I’m excited to be a future chief resident and continue to help our program grow and achieve greater heights while staying close to home. Our program combines academic excellence with a welcoming environment for all while providing the highest level of patient-centered care, and I look forward to continuing this mission. Additionally, I hope to strengthen our ultrasound curriculum and medical student experiences while focusing on providing the best possible education for our future physicians so we can continue to be a national leader in the field of internal medicine for years to come.

I am thrilled and honored to be selected as a chief resident for the Internal Medicine program. Over the past two years in this program, I have been challenged and inspired by my colleagues and patients. I look forward to giving back to this program while having the opportunity to improve my leadership and clinical skills. During my chief year, I want to improve our residency mentorship and work on expanding resident and medical student education.

I am truly honored to be a chief resident at such an amazing institution! The Internal Medicine Program at the University of Iowa has helped me grow personally and professionally. As a chief resident, I hope to give back to the institution by improving medical education and quality improvement, two fields I am very passionate about.

Iowa is a special place, full of wonderful, brilliant people. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn about leadership, scholarship, and clinical skills from Dr. Suneja and our amazing staff. I hope to move our program forward by fostering wellness, innovating our teaching methods, and recruiting a bright new class of young doctors to carry on the golden Iowa legacy. Go Hawks!
