We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)
Nanette Brokaw, MSN, FNP-BC
Gastroenterology and Hepatology
Service: Advanced Nutrition Service
Years with Internal Medicine: 5 years

My “WHY”: I have a strong desire to assist my patients in achieving their goals and to meet them “where they are” in their chronic illness journey, while utilizing a holistic approach. ”My why” is the absolute privilege of their trust as we navigate their path while providing support, options, and assistance navigating a complex healthcare system. “My why” is being included in their journey, by the patient and family, no matter the outcome.
What Relaxes Me: Bicycling, spending time with family/friends, watching The Office, scrapbooking.
Nan is dedicated, hardworking, and deeply cares for her patients, many of whom are very ill. She works effectively with multiple services, both in and out of hospital, to ensure her patients receive excellent, compassionate, and coordinated care. She is an amazing colleague who consistently provides the highest quality care and tirelessly advocates for her patients. She is a highly committed learner, teacher, and team member; and we feel so fortunate she is on our team.
