We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)
Scott Leaverton, MPAS, PA-C
Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation
Service: Procedure Clinic
Years with Internal Medicine: 28
Hometown: Iowa City
My “WHY”: I simply try to give my best in doing procedures for each one of our patients—many of whom are going through their greatest challenge in this life.
What Relaxes Me: being out in nature—whether it’s hiking, biking or walking our two dogs
Scott is an expert proceduralist who approaches patients with compassion, respect, and reassurance, helping them get through scary procedures like bone marrow biopsies. He is also a gifted guitar player!
— Steven Lentz, MD, PhD
Scott recently did a bone marrow biopsy for me as one input into the diagnosis of my post colon cancer complications case. Scott has a remarkable calming, empathetic style and is highly proficient in this biopsy procedure.
