Once a Hawkeye, always a Hawkeye. We are pleased to share news from the University of Chicago that Mark Anderson, MD, PhD, will become the Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, Dean of the Division of Biological Sciences, and Dean of the Pritzker School of Medicine, effective October 1, 2022.
Anderson came to the University of Iowa from Vanderbilt University in 2005 to become the director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and director of what would eventually become the Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center. Anderson then became chair and DEO in 2009, succeeding Paul Rothman, MD, after Rothman became Dean of the Medical Faculty and Vice President for Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University.
During his tenure as chair, Anderson led the department through a period of strong growth, expanding the clinical, research, and educational missions in equal measure. In 2014, Anderson accepted the offer to become director of the Department of Medicine and physician-in-chief of The John Hopkins Hospital, joining Rothman in Baltimore. In the years since, Anderson has maintained personal and professional connections at Iowa through research collaborations with former trainees and faculty and with our Design Center.
The announcement from the University of Chicago has the full details of Anderson’s career path. We extend our congratulations and our best wishes as he returns to the Midwest and takes on this new role.
