Meet Our APPs: Joseph Cates, PA-C

We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)

Joseph Cates, PA-C
Infectious Diseases

Service: Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) transition service

Years with Internal Medicine: 1 year

Hometown: Arenzville, IL

My “WHY”: I enjoy the continuity of care I get to provide patients by seeing them both as inpatients and then in the clinic. I get to see some remarkable recoveries and being a part of that journey is very fulfilling.

What Relaxes Me: I enjoy running or swimming and spending time with family.

Joseph has been an integral part of our team since day 1. He stepped into a brand new role in our division and helped us work through the kinks of the new position, remaining flexible along the way. He is comfortable with autonomy but knows when to ask for help. He has also been consistently willing to help out on other services in our division as the need arises.
