Meet Your Interns – Part 7

We are proud to present the incoming Intern Class of 2022. We wanted to take the opportunity to go a little past the names and faces and learn a couple things about them. We asked them each to tell us about why they chose Internal Medicine at Iowa for their residency. And, now that they have been here a month or so, what they like about living in Iowa City or working at University of Iowa Health Care. We are pleased to announce the final group if interns below. Welcome to Iowa!

Brandon Baksh, MD

“Why Iowa”: I am a big fan of corn! I also loved the people I met! Everyone was very warm and welcoming and I sensed that I would feel supported here, which has been my experience!

What I like about Iowa City: I have enjoyed exploring the outdoors amenities such as hiking and biking trails! There are also usually many different activities going on nearby, including live music, antique shows, festivals, markets, etc., that keep me busy!

Matt Meyer, MD

“Why Iowa”: The opportunity to train in an outstanding residency program that has great people and well-rounded clinical and surgical training.

What I like about Iowa City: Iowa City feels like home to me. There is so much to do here without the hassle of living in a big city.

Zeke Quittner-Strom, MD

Hometown: Dallas, Texas

Medical school: Long School of Medicine, University of Texas-San Antonio

“Why Iowa”: I’ve lived in the south, the northeast, and on the west coast; the Midwest is my final frontier. And Dr. Suneja and Dr. Harris were extremely warm and inviting on interview day. It was hard not to be drawn in by their energy.

What I like about Iowa City: I appreciate how bikeable the city is. Getting a bit of exercise on the way to work is a great way to wake myself up. I also really love the fried chicken sandwiches from Pullman.

Sammy Tadros, MD

Hometown: Evansville, Indiana

Medical school: Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

“Why Iowa”: Excellent clinical training. Strong research infrastructure with faculty in my area of interest. Welcoming and supportive environment.

What I like about Iowa City: I love the strong sense of community and school spirit shared by everyone who lives here, even those not directly affiliated with the university. I also like that I can get anywhere I need to go in under 15 minutes. Iowa City is also more diverse than I realized prior to moving here, and I am enjoying the different cultural events and restaurants available here.

Jonathan Trejo, MD

Hometown: Apple Valley, California

Medical school: University of Washington School of Medicine

“Why Iowa”: The culture and training here seemed like a wonderful combination. After experiencing it for the past few months, I can confirm that it’s full of people who want to support their residents.

What I like about Iowa City: It’s such a fun city with affordable cost of living. It’s great exploring all of the restaurants!
