We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)
Carla Pies, DNP, ARNP
General Internal Medicine
Service: Palliative Care Team
Years with Internal Medicine: 9 years
Specialty or service I almost chose instead of this one: I worked in Cardiology prior to transitioning to palliative care.
One of my favorite moments in this job: Team camaraderie
What restores me for the work: Almost anything outside, running and gathering with friends and family.
Carla exudes excellence naturally. She challenges me to be a better ARNP in a supportive environment. She is an expert in Cardiac Care and a valuable resource. I have grown as a human and ARNP with Carla as a teammate. She allows me to be vulnerable and share when I am uncertain as well as reaches out to others when she needs clarity. Carla is a true joy to work with.

Carla is a wonderful resource for all things palliative. I always appreciate her help!
Carla is simply brilliant … an excellent role model for all of us in health care!
