The Department of Internal Medicine is pleased to announce that Michaela Davis, BS, MBA (Expected completion, 2024), will join the Human Resources team, effective April 10. Davis joins us already familiar with UI Health Care and some of our department’s clinical activity, after spending a year and a half working in HR with the UI’s Emergency Department and the Heart and Vascular Center. Davis handled issues related to recruitment and onboarding as well as timekeeping and payroll. She familiarized herself with a variety of employment law as well as institutional policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all and providing input on proposed adaptations in processes and practices.
Before joining UI Health Care and a stint managing personnel for the Iowa City Community School District’s facilities staff, Davis was a member of Security Forces for the United States Air Force for six years. In that time, she became a decorated member, earning commendations such as “Airman of the Year” twice, as well as other recognitions for her distinguished service. Some of that service included organizing and directing the security plans to protect the Vice President of the United States when he visited Shaw Air Force Base and managing the damage response after Hurricane Matthew made its way to the Carolinas.
Davis says she is excited to step into the role of HR Generalist for a department as large and diverse as Internal Medicine. “This department has a strong reputation for being leaders when it comes to problem-solving and customer service. I want to learn as much as I can and hopefully bring some of my experience to contribute to its growth.
Kaila Boothroy, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, HR Director for Internal Medicine, says she thinks Davis is a “natural fit” on the HR team. “Michaela already has so much experience in hiring and onboarding, all while keeping an eye on requirements. Her previous experience in Human Resources supporting multiple departments at UIHC will be invaluable as she transitions to Internal Medicine.”
Please join us in welcoming Michaela Davis to Internal Medicine.
