We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)
Ann Struve, DNP, ARNP
General Internal Medicine
Service where you work: Adult Supportive and Palliative Care Consult Service
Years with Internal Medicine: 8 years
Specialty or service I almost chose instead of this one: I love and miss geriatric primary care.
One of my favorite moments in this job: This is hard to say. There are so many profound moments over the years that I’ve been honored to be a part of. I especially enjoy Wellness Wednesdays, as it gives me an opportunity to connect with my team members on a different level. I love learning from everyone on my team.
What restores me for the work: Family/pet time, non-healthcare related book club, exercise, adequate sleep, UI EAP, and time at my parents’ farm.
It is hard for one quote to do Ann Struve justice. Ann is an inspiring person to get to work with each day. She is incredibly smart, thorough, articulate, witty, and caring. She not only cares for her patients but also spends time getting to know team members on a personal level. She has a great deal of leadership within the Palliative care team and is looked to as an expert in many areas. She would be the last person to give herself kudos, but she really deserves them. We are all so lucky to call you a friend and a colleague!

Ann is one of the best colleagues I’ve ever had the pleasuring of working with in my career! She is dependable, thorough, thoughtful, empathetic, and values the roles of other team members and disciplines.
