The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine recently announced their new Interim Director of Echocardiography, and Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory, Ramzi El Accaoui, MD. This will be effective September 18, 2023.

El Accaoui’s duties will include developing a strategic plan for the section, working on faculty and staff recruitment, development of new technologies and efficiencies in the lab, and working on staffing of the lab.

El Accaoui joined the department in 2012, after completing internal medicine residency and a cardiology fellowship at the University of Iowa. He holds a dual appointment as a clinical associate professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in Internal Medicine, and as a clinical associate professor of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Imaging in the Department of Radiology.

In addition to his new role, El Accaoui currently serves as medical director of Advanced Structural Echocardiography at UI Health Care, director of Echocardiography at Iowa City VA Medical Center, and medical director of the Cardiovascular ICU and the 4RC at UI Hospitals & Clinics.
