Outstanding Resident & Teacher of the Year Awards, 2026

At last evening’s Internal Medicine Residency Graduation, the final three resident-chosen awards for the year were announced. The bulk of the awards had been announced last week at the Chief Residents’ Grand Rounds.

Outstanding Intern of the Year – Alec Hanson, MD
Outstanding Junior Resident of the Year – Juno Sung, MD
Outstanding Fellow of the Year – Alex Greiner, MD, PhD
Outstanding Support Staff of the Year – Vickie Butterbrodt, RN

In addition, three named awards—one honoring Ernest O. Theilen, one honoring François M. Abboud, and the Amarachi Anukam Humanism Award—were also distributed. The first went to Jacob Heath, MD, the second to Amanda Chang, MD, and the third to Quinn Vatland, MD. Vatland’s award would have been presented at graduation, but she was unable to attend.

 

The final two awards, the Outstanding Faculty Teacher of the Year and the Outstanding Graduating Resident were revealed at last night’s Residency Graduation event. Outstanding Faculty Teacher of the Year went to Morton Machir, MD.

Outstanding Graduating Resident of the Year was presented to Joe Berei, MD.
