Creative Creations Competition, 2026
The residency program’s Humanities and Wellness Committee (HWC) provides trainees with creative outlets that nurture the whole resident. To this end, the committee recently organized a contest called “Creative Creations,” where residents showcased their creativity through a variety of mediums.
Residents presented their writing and artwork during a noon conference for their peers and the event’s judges: Ashten Sherman, MD, Brittany Bettendorf, MD, and Katie Harris, MD. This year’s winners received Amazon gift cards.
Sherman, the contest’s lead organizer, said the event’s goal was to bring residents together through the humanities and provide a space for self-expression.
“I was blown away by the works that were submitted this year,” she said. Sherman believes the humanities—whether writing, music, or visual art—are a means to process the challenges of the profession, while also fostering joy for both the creator and the audience. “As healthcare providers, we are used to seeing humanity in one of its more vulnerable forms, but the humanities help bring people together in a whole new way.”
The event was organized under the HWC, now led by incoming co-presidents Margriet Wilson, MD, and Anuradha Gore, MD, MPH, MS.
