Davis named Interim Director of the Division of Immunology

The message below was sent to the Department of Internal Medicine earlier today.

I am pleased to announce that Benjamin Davis, MD, PhD, clinical associate professor of internal medicine in immunology and of pediatrics, has accepted the role of Interim Director for the Division of Immunology, which includes allergy, immunology, and rheumatology services, effective July 1. A national search for a Division Director will start in due time. Dr. Davis takes the role as Scott Vogelgesang, MD, is stepping down after eight years and returning to the faculty before retiring next year. We are extremely grateful for his many years of service to the department in many roles, as a distinguished clinician and educator, as Division Director, as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director from 2002 to 2014, and as the Vice Chair for Education from 2005 to 2014.

Dr. Davis has demonstrated a similar level of dedication to the Department of Internal Medicine since returning to Iowa in 2015. Dr. Davis, a native of Iowa, completed his medical training at the University of Iowa. He completed a PhD, a residency in internal medicine, and an allergy-immunology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. He is an expert in eosinophilic disorders and has a strong interest in clinical research. He is also no stranger to leadership roles, serving as the Immunology service chief at the Iowa City VA and as the associate medical director for the Medical Specialties Clinic at University of Iowa Health Care.

In each of these roles, Dr. Davis has shown his belief in the importance of striving for excellence in every aspect of the department’s missions. Moreover, his own strengths in caring for patients and trainees alike and in conducting rigorous research inspire those around him, a mark of an exceptional leader. Please join me in thanking Dr. Davis for his service and congratulating him on this new appointment.
