Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship Spotlight: Austin Greco, MD

The following is reprinted from the September 26 issue of the Holden Highlights newsletter. Previously, Laila Babar, MBBS, was featured.

Austin Greco, MD attended medical school at the University of Iowa and completed a residency at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and is currently in his third year of fellowship in hematology and oncology. Austin was drawn to cancer care mostly because of the patients. When a cancer or blood disorder diagnosis is received, it can be life-changing. Austin feels privileged to be able to help patients through that time. The therapy that is offered now is very cutting-edge; therapy progression will certainly continue.

Austin was born and raised in Iowa and feels a great allegiance to the state. He feels very fortunate to have such an amazing hospital and institution in which to train in a place a call he calls home. “If you are from the state or not it seems amazingly smart and compassionate people are drawn to this institution.”

In his free time, Austin likes to spend time with his wife and 2-year-old as well as his friends as much as he can. He also enjoys playing golf and following Hawkeye sports.
