The following is a statement from Vice Chair for Education and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Manish Suneja, MD.
It is with great pride that I announce the 2024–25 Chief Residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
The Chief Residents are chosen for their leadership skills, moral integrity, and clinical acumen and are the most representative faces of the Internal Medicine Residency Program for the year. The Chief Residency represents the largest investment in leadership made by the Department, but the return on this investment is immeasurable.
We look forward to our Chief Residents serving as teachers, role models, and colleagues to our residents. Please join us in congratulating Rachel, Marie, Luke, and Lauren on their success! We look forward to their leadership.
I am humbled and grateful to be selected as Chief Resident. The Iowa Internal Medicine program offers high quality clinical training and a supportive learning environment. I look forward to mentoring medical students and residents through this role and growing as an educator. It is a privilege to train at the University of Iowa and I am excited to continue my journey here as Chief Resident.
When I was told I was selected to be a Chief Resident for the 2024-25 year I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I came to this program as a resident because I loved the culture our program and former chiefs had cultivated. I am excited to continue to foster an environment of learning, curiosity and growth for our residents and work as an advocate for the residents and program alike. My goal as a Chief Resident is to help grow our program, make meaningful changes to our curriculum, and schedule and teach our residents to become excellent clinicians. I am truly honored to serve as a future chief.
I am so grateful to have been chosen as a future Chief Resident. I have had such a great experience with the many dedicated leaders in our program, who demonstrate exemplary clinical and teaching skills while advocating for individual residents, and the residency program as a whole. My goal is to use what I have learned from these leaders and my passion for medical education to serve the residents of this program. I’m excited to do this alongside my co-chiefs, who I know will be strong partners in creating a supportive culture and learning environment.
The University of Iowa Internal Medicine program has been like a second family to me for the past two years and I am so excited and honored to have been selected to serve as Chief Resident. I look forward to working closely with the devoted and supportive staff that make this program so great. In my role I hope to expand upon both the quality and safety and communication curricula as well as to enhance mental health and health care resources for residents. I look forward to working closely with residents and staff to find ways to improve this already excellent program.
