The Chiefs’ Grand Rounds, 2026
Even though they are leaders in our residency program, the Chief Residents’ acumen as clinicians and educators is rarely on full display to the entire institution and beyond. Every year they are invited to deliver a Grand Rounds in Internal Medicine close to the end of their term in office. (View previous years’ presentations here: 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022.)
Before they could begin, Manish Suneja, MD, Residency Program Director and Vice Chair of Education, presented the first results of the awards voted on by the residents themselves. (We will publish the full slate of winners after this week’s residency graduation event.) The Chiefs were also recognized individually with a small token of the department’s appreciation. In the interest of time, Chair and DEO Upi Singh, MD, delivered her gift to the Chiefs privately before their presentation.
Before Suneja presented them with the traditional clock, a reminder of the importance of being on time, before their presentations, Suneja said:
Over the past year, they’ve served as leaders, advocates, mentors, problem solvers, and role models. They’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes to improve our training program, enhance patient safety, support their fellow residents, and help create a positive and productive learning environment. Their impact extends far beyond schedule and administrative responsibilities. Each of them has demonstrated remarkable professionalism, compassion, and dedication to patient care while leading by example every day. As they move on to the next stage of their careers, Dr. Singh and I would like to express our deepest gratitude for their outstanding leadership commitment to internal medicine and the countless contributions they’ve made to our department and the program.
And then it was time for the Chiefs’ presentations. Watch a recording of their presentations here.

In the new academic year, here is where these former Chiefs will be found: Blaine will be a cardiology fellow here; Maggio will be a nephrology fellow at Vanderbilt; Osman will be a gastroenterology and hepatology fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester; and Walhof will be a hematology and oncology fellow here.
Our congratulations to these Chiefs! We will miss them and their enthusiasm!
