LaBrecque lecture, 22 Oct 2026
In 2019, the Douglas R. LaBrecque Lectureship in Hepatology was launched to honor the career and contributions to medicine made by its namesake Douglas R. LaBrecque, MD, FACP, emeritus professor of internal medicine. Every year since, leaders in the field have delivered presentations at Internal Medicine Grand Rounds.

Last week, Mindie H. Nguyen, MD, MAS, AGAF, FAASLD, professor of medicine, epidemiology, and population health, at Stanford University, joined a distinguished list of lecturers. She was introduced by Antonio Sanchez, MD, clinical professor in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Nguyen’s presentation on hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common form of liver cancer in adults, walked through the importance and challenges of early screening and intervention as well as prevention and new treatments that show promise. Her presentation can be viewed here.
After a generous question-and-answer period from an engaged audience, Nguyen posed for a few photos with LaBrecque and Sanchez, and then with members of LaBrecque’s spouse and family, who were also in attendance.
