GME Leadership Symposium, 2025

The Carver College of Medicine’s Office of Graduate Medical Education held its annual GME Leadership Symposium last week. The Department of Internal Medicine again made a strong showing both in the event’s poster session as well as in its awards.

Read the Symposium Poster Guide with titles and abstracts here.

Of the 30 posters accepted to the competition, 12 came from Internal Medicine faculty and trainees. First place went to “Refining Resident Teaching Skills: The Role of Deliberate Practice and OSTE-Based Feedback,” which was presented by Jennifer Strouse, MD. Second place was awarded to “Development of a Distinction in Point-of-Care Ultrasound Track for Internal Medicine Residents,” which was presented by Sydney Bowmaster, MD.

Strouse also won an Excellence in Clinical Coaching award, and Internal Medicine Residency Program Coordinator Stacy Sueppel won a Program Coordinator Excellence award. “Dr. Strouse is one of the most thoughtful and supportive coaches I’ve had,” one nominator wrote. “She helped me reframe challenges as opportunities for growth and always believed in me, even when I doubted myself.” Of Sueppel, one nominator said, “Beyond her technical expertise, Stacy’s impact is deeply felt through her unwavering support of residents and faculty. Her approachability, problem-solving skills, and dedication to resident well-being have earned her the respect and gratitude of everyone in the program.”

We will update this post with names of other nominees as they become available.
