Wishing Michael Kienzle, MD, a happy retirement

Friends, colleagues, and loved ones met for a happy hour just down the road from University of Iowa Health Care’s Iowa River Landing location to offer congratulations and to wish Michael Kienzle, MD, well as he begins his next chapter. As guests arrived at the rooftop patio they helped themselves to some refreshments, enjoying the late afternoon sunshine, the views of a growing neighborhood, and the cooling breeze.

They also had a chance to peruse a small book assembled by the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine from the department’s decades-old archives of photographs. Kienzle’s 40-year career with Iowa unfurled page by page, with room for friends to leave messages to let him know how much his daily presence would be missed.

Later that evening, many guests would migrate across town to the celebration for the 12 fellows graduating from the division’s five different fellowship programs, a fitting bookend for the evening. But first, before the well-wishes for cardiologists just launching their careers, reflections and reminiscing was on tap for the division’s members.

Congratulations, Dr. Kienzle, we will see you around!
