The following is a statement from Vice Chair for Education and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Manish Suneja, MD.
It is with great pride that I announce the 2023–24 Chief Residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
The Chief Residents are chosen for their leadership skills, moral integrity, and clinical acumen and are the most representative faces of the Internal Medicine Residency Program for the year. The Chief Residency represents the largest investment in leadership made by the Department, but the return on this investment is immeasurable.
We look forward to our Chief Residents serving as teachers, role models, and colleagues to our residents. Please join us in congratulating Taylor, Alex, Reed, and Kathie on their success! We look forward to their leadership.
I feel honored to accept a position as a chief resident. The University of Iowa is an incredible place to learn and work and I feel so privileged to train here. The Internal Medicine Program has not only supported my growth as a physician, but has encouraged and mentored me throughout the process. As a chief, I hope to continue the tradition of excellence exhibited by past chiefs. Additionally, I hope to focus on the empowerment and mentorship of current and future female physicians given their invaluable contributions to the health care system. I am incredibly excited to get to work!
It is an honor and a privilege to be selected as a rising chief resident. I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence laid out by chiefs who came before me. As chief resident, I aim to continue the University of Iowa Internal Medicine Residency Program’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a program, we train fundamentally sound internists who practice evidence-based medicine with an emphasis on patient-centered care.
It is such an honor to be selected as a future chief resident. As both a University of Iowa medical student and resident, I had the opportunity to work with many previous cohorts of chief residents. Their outstanding leadership and teaching have had a significant impact on my development as a clinician. As a chief resident, I look forward to working with my fantastic co-chiefs and the incredible residency leadership to continue the Iowa tradition of training outstanding physicians through excellent clinical teaching in a collegial, team-centered learning environment.
The University of Iowa Internal Medicine residency offers not only excellent clinical training, but also a collegial learning environment and supportive leadership that have helped me grow so much as a physician. I am honored to be selected as the Chief Resident in Quality and Safety so that I can give back to this amazing program. During my chief year, I hope to help foster continued resident interest and learning in the areas of quality improvement and ambulatory medicine.
