Meet Our APPs: Allison Wynes, ACNP-BC, DNP

We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)

Allison Wynes, ACNP-BC, DNP
Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine

Service: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)

Years with Internal Medicine: 11

Longest Place I Ever Lived: Iowa City

My “WHY”: I love all aspects of critical care at UIHC. Teaching, learning, and helping families through tough situations is very fulfilling. The wins make the hard times worth it.

What Relaxes Me: Traveling/exploring, being in nature, watching movies with my kiddos

In the last 10 years, no one has had a greater impact upon MICU as Allison Wynes. She excels in patient care, is a nationally recognized educator of critical care physicians and APPs, and is a phenomenal administrator. Originally a single MICU APP, she has grown the group to now 8 tremendous MICU APPs that provide excellent care and consistency within MICU. Our MICU APPs under Allison’s leadership were invaluable in the response to the COVID ICU crisis and surge ICU. Allison is an excellent human being who values inclusion and diversity.
