Meet Our APPs: Connie Moffit, MSN, AGACNP

We are pleased to present the next in our weekly series introducing you to Internal Medicine’s Advanced Practice Providers. In addition to sharing information about where they work in the department, we asked them each to tell us a little bit about their “Why” (the sustaining pull for their work) and what relaxes them. (Read previous weeks’ installments.)

Connie Moffit, MSN, AGACNP
Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine

Service: Medical Intensive Care Unit

Time with Internal Medicine: 8 months

Hometown: Stanwood, Iowa

My “Why”: I chose to join the MICU team because you are required to use critical thinking skills for trouble shooting and problem solving when caring for patients with (many) complex conditions. I also enjoy being able to provide education, support, and empathy to my patients and families during their hospital stay as it is not uncommon for them to experience fear and/or overwhelming feelings of loss of control. Lastly, when the outcome we all hoped for is not able to be achieved, it is an honor to be able to ensure a peaceful and dignified end-of-life experience.

What relaxes me: I enjoy bowling, biking (long distances), paddle boarding/kayaking, yard work, spoiling my pets, and spending time with my husband, sister, and friends.

Co worker I enjoy working with: I firmly believe that MICU has the best APP group in the hospital. They are all knowledgeable and very supportive of each other – especially on the hard days. I hope that Rachael knows how much she is appreciated as our APP lead when checking in on the less experienced providers to be sure things are going well / offering support and striving to make everyone a schedule that they are happy with (a difficult job that she makes seem so easy). Jake also stands out to me. He is an outstanding teacher and is very patient when explaining new concepts or ideas (sometimes more than once). He is incredibly knowledgeable, although very humble about it, and because of that I am not afraid to tackle new things or ask for the sick admit when he is there because I know he is right there to back me up when I need help. Kirstin is also phenomenal in several ways. She is knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions but she also has the natural ability to be a sound voice of reason in difficult situations. She has (maybe unbeknownst to her) brought me back down to earth more than once! Last, but most certainly not least, I have an overwhelming appreciation for our experienced night APPs, Bre and Liz. As a new ICU provider working nights (with less support + covering our sister unit), it can be overwhelming and sometimes scary. Having them there to bounce ideas off and steer us in the right direction has been invaluable!

Connie is a compassionate provider. She is a strong patient advocate and has a high drive for ongoing learning and growth within the MICU.

MICU is lucky to have Connie on our team!
