Elizabeth is an exceptional colleague. She is always willing to lend a hand to care for patients so others can take a needed break. Most recently, she covered the in-baskets of several providers, while also taking call on Christmas, all so her colleagues could have some true time away over the holidays. Elizabeth is always willing to answer my questions and work cohesively. She has also taken on extra shifts to help cover the inpatient side as we hired new providers. She is an amazing colleague, doctor, and person. There is no one more deserving of this recognition.


Farnoosh Shemirani, Postdoctoral Research Scholar

She is exceptionally productive as a post doc scholar. Notably, she recently secured the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Diana Benz Memorial Fund Seed Grant, receiving $25,000 in support. The project aims to investigate the role of an online multimodal intervention in reducing cancer-related fatigue. More, Farnoosh has received recognition as an Honorable Mention from Graduate Women In Science (GWIS). Additionally, she has submitted a compelling proposal to the Obermann Interdisciplinary Grant Program, focusing on the role of social support in improving outcomes for individuals with MS, receiving positive feedback from the review committee. She also submitted a letter of intent for the Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), and her proposal was among the highest rated, leading to an invitation to submit a full proposal.

Dee Gansemer has consistently provided the highest quality of services to the basic science researchers in the Cardiovascular Medicine Division. She is conscientious and thorough. Dee knows her client base and takes care of everyone equally. Dee held this position several years ago then left us for Atlanta. We welcomed her back enthusiastically! Great job, Dee.

Toni ensures that the 100-150 patients at any one time receiving IV antibiotics are being monitored closely. She troubleshoots any issues that might arise and works with infusion centers, pharmacists, nursing facilities, home health nurses and providers to ensure any issues are sorted expeditiously. she routinely finds red flag labs and alerts the providers to them. She is an asset to the ID division.

Jess has been an asset to our division assisting with covering our offices in inclement weather as well as when our main office is short-staffed. Every two weeks, Kris runs a search in PubMed to find and identify the dozens of publications produced by our faculty, fellows, and residents. She sends this list to Lori who keeps our department’s website current. This regular maintenance is time-consuming but a critical task for anyone looking for current information about our department. That publication list contains a wealth of data about the department’s research activities for the world to see. Some weeks the page gets a lot of traffic, some weeks less, but this duo has been steadily documenting the academic life of the department for years now. Thank you for your diligence!

Andrea was discharging a patient that needed close follow up on lab work. There was not an appointment available in the transitions of care clinic or with the PCP. Despite her being the inpatient hospitalist, she ordered the outpatient labs, followed up on them, and then followed up with the patient while also caring for a full patient load that day.

Brad has been a great leader for the hospitalist group during this past year. He has been able to implement the needed changes in the structure and staffing of the program to allow us to safely care for patients. He has shown empathy and understanding for everyone, especially our most junior hospitalists and led us through difficult staffing situations. He has gone above and beyond to make this program stronger and ensure we can continue to recruit and most importantly, retain our hospitalists.

Cindy is an immense asset to the department and, more specifically, to the residency program. She knows the complicated resident schedule like the back of her hand and her ability to recall the names of residents’ spouses, kids, and dogs is impressive. Cindy not only takes interest in each individual, but she manages to do so while balancing a million other tasks and deadlines. The way that Cindy makes people feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated sets a great example for the rest of us. Thank you for everything, Cindy!

Sara is an amazing administrator. She manages the complex schedules of several attendings in our division.
