Residents’ Valentine’s Bingo

Though Valentine’s Day had passed, the Humanities and Wellness Committee for the department’s residency program still wanted to make sure members got to celebrate a little. At a recent noon conference, members of the committee organized a few rounds of bingo with some unique prizes.

Prizes included a yodeling pickle, a mug gently teasing cardiologists, a tourist’s guide to Iowa’s out-of-the-way gems, and badge swag that might come in handy during board prep.

After a couple rounds of the traditional version of the game, the callers Stacy Sueppel, Abbey Gilpin, and Chief Resident Dr. Reed Johnson mixed it up a little. New versions included “four corners” and “railroad tracks.” In the end, almost everyone who played had a pretty good shot at winning a prize.

Later that evening, the residency program also hosted a “Friends, Food and Flannel” party at a local restaurant and music venue. We will have coverage of that event as well soon. As the Chiefs put it on their Instagram post:

We’ve found as a program, later into the winter months can be hard for residents and staff for several reasons. 1) Short days means on some services, you wake up and come home when it’s dark. 2) People feel stuck indoors (even though this week it’s beautiful, sunny and 50 degrees). 3) People get sick!

Matching to University of Iowa’s Internal Medicine Program means you have a program dedicated to ensuring your well-being, putting a smile on your face, and providing coverage if you aren’t feeling your best!!!

We strive to find creative ways to bring happiness and increase morale.
