The following is a statement from Vice Chair for Education and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Manish Suneja, MD.
It is with great pride that I announce the 2025–26 Chief Residents for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
The Chief Residents are chosen for their leadership skills, moral integrity, and clinical acumen and are the most representative faces of the Internal Medicine Residency Program for the year. The Chief Residency represents the largest investment in leadership made by the Department, but the return on this investment is immeasurable.
We look forward to our Chief Residents serving as teachers, role models, and colleagues to our residents. Please join us in congratulating Adam, Tyler, Marcus, and Mackenzie on their success! We look forward to their leadership.
I am honored to be selected as Chief Resident. The University of Iowa Internal Medicine Residency has not only provided me with outstanding clinical training, but also a supportive environment and educational experiences that thus far, have been second to none. I am thrilled to work with all the dedicated staff and residents to contribute to the rich culture that makes this such a special place. As chief of quality and safety, I am excited to spark interest in quality improvement and promote resident wellness while prioritizing health equity and inclusion.
Chief Residents have always played an integral role in shaping the educational prowess of Internal Medicine here at the University of Iowa. I credit a lot of my growth as a clinician and an educator to current and former Chiefs and the culture they fostered. With that in mind, I could not be more honored to accept an appointment as Chief Resident for the 2025–2026 year. This responsibility is not taken lightly, and I am motivated to continue the standard of excellence that has already been established. With the help of my co-Chiefs, I look forward to supporting our trainees on their path to becoming exceptional physicians.
I feel truly honored to be selected as a Chief Resident for the 2025–2026 year. I am very grateful for the excellent medical training I have received thus far at the University of Iowa. I feel our institution is special in its ability to create well-rounded clinicians, educators, and researchers. In my Chief position, I hope to contribute and advance our program’s ability to complete this mission. I look forward to working with faculty and residents to enhance our program’s strong community and culture.
I am honored and thrilled to accept the position of Chief Resident. This program has done an incredible job inspiring physicians to pursue clinical excellence and I am excited to join a long line of amazing Chief Residents who are passionate about improving the program. As a Chief Resident, I hope to encourage current and future residents to pursue the areas of medicine that excite them while also teaching them to develop the skills they will need to become excellent clinicians. Additionally, I aim to inspire and empower future female physicians and also physician parents to pursue positions of leadership and demonstrate the ability to excel in and out of medicine.

Many congratulations to all. You are about to embark upon the most unforgettable year of your training. Best to luck!
