New Faculty and APP Additions – 2024

The Department of Internal Medicine is pleased to introduce some of the faculty members and APPs who joined us between April and September 2024 (start dates in parentheses). The group below have joined the Division of General Internal Medicine; new providers from other divisions will be announced in a couple days. We are happy to welcome them to the department.

Jennifer Becker, ARNP, DNP (7/29/24)

Dr. Jennifer Becker joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner, where she will provide Supportive and Palliative Care at UI Health Care Medical Center. She received a BSN, as well as a DNP from the University of Iowa College of Nursing. In her spare time, Dr. Becker enjoys spending time with her husband, Dennis, two boys (Charlie-13 and Jon-11) and family dog, George. She has worked off and on at UI Health Care since 1998 when she started in Valet Parking and Patient Escort Services during undergraduate study and most recently worked with the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.


Rishil Chopra, MD (7/15/24)

Dr. Rishil Chopra joins the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor after completing his internal medicine residency at University Hospitals St. John Medical Center in Westlake, Ohio. He received his MD from Saint James School of Medicine in Anguilla City, Anguilla. Dr. Chopra’s clinical and research interests focus on hematology/oncology. Outside the hospital, he enjoys working out, watching sports, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.


Reed A. Johnson, MD (7/15/24)

Dr. Reed A. Johnson joins the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor after completion of his internal medicine residency here at the University of Iowa, where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Johnson received his Medical Degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. His clinical and research interests include integrating scientific understanding of pathophysiology into diagnostic reasoning and how best to teach clinical decision making. When he isn’t working, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time outside and reading.


Grace Kavalier, DNP, ARNP (4/16/24)

Dr. Grace Kavalier joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner/Hospitalist. She received a BSN from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, followed by a DNP in Geriatric Acute Care from Allen College in Waterloo.


Madeline Michalopulos, MD (9/9/24)

Dr. Madeline Michalopulos joins the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor from a faculty position in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Texas, Southwestern. She is our first dual appointment between the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Departments and will practice as a Med-Peds Hospitalist. She received her medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine School of Community Medicine followed by a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, where she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Michalopulos’ clinical and research interests focus on Transitions of Care, Health Literacy, and Health Disparities. Outside medicine, Dr. Michalopulos enjoys baking (particularly layer cakes), reading fiction, kickboxing, garden-to-table cooking, and experiencing other cultures via international travel.


Maneet Multani, MD (7/1/24)

Dr. Maneet Multani joins the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor after completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital-TriHealth Systems in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his MD from Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Dr. Multani’s clinical and research interests involve lung cancer and cancer genomics. His hobbies include weight lifting & camping.


Stephanie Rayner, ARNP (9/10/24)

Stephanie Rayner joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner, where she will care for patients at UI Health Care Medical Center. She looks forward to caring for complex surgical patients, prior to their planned procedures. Her favorite part of the job is looking at a patient’s entire medical picture to help navigate the best possible outcome as part of a multidisciplinary team. She received her MSN-FNP degree from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Outside of the office, Rayner enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and traveling.


Mohamed Rouabhi, MD (7/1/24)

Dr. Mohamed Rouabhi joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor. He completed his MD at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, followed by an internal medicine residency at Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. His clinical and research interests are studying cardiovascular outcomes and quality improvement/resource utilization. Outside of work, he enjoys playing basketball, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.


Hisham Sweidan, MD (7/1/24)

Dr. Hisham Sweidan comes to the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor after completing his internal medicine residency at DMC/Sinai-Grace, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He says he thrives on building meaningful connections with his patients. He believes “effective health care goes beyond diagnosis and treatment; it’s about truly understanding each individual’s unique story and needs. My approach is centered around open communication and compassion.” When he is not in the hospital, he spends time reading books and cooking.
