Muhammad Furqan, Clinical Professor
Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation
Nominated by Samragnyi Madala

He takes his time to write down the treatment plan very patiently. It made me realize how less patients understand when we verbally give them treatment recommendations especially in our oncology world. His treatment style helped me learn a lot and incorporate into my future practice.

Ryan Boudreau, Associate Professor
Cardiovascular Medicine
Nominated by Candice

He knows a lot. He always talked more knowledge in RNA area more than I need. He gives me more space to develop myself. He is always so passionate and so nice. He is such a cool and responsible mentor in many ways. I am very confident to make some awesome scientific progress in his lab!

Elizabeth Bowen, Clinical Assistant Professor
Endocrinology and Metabolism
Anonymous nomination

Her willingness to go above and beyond with looking into endocrinology questions and teach me. She is also outstanding at communicating about mutual patients which improves care.

Lori Strommer, Creative Media Developer
Internal Medicine
Nominated by Trevor Jackson

Lori has managed the migration of hundreds and hundreds of webpages that make up our department’s digital footprint on the uiowa.edu domain to the new content management system. She has diligently and nearly single-handedly taken the opportunity to re-think what works best for each of these pages. She has capitalized on new tools that are available and streamlined and enhanced Internal Medicine’s web presence. We look as good as we do online because Lori is putting in the creativity and thought to make it happen.

Andrew Huizer, Administrative Services Specialist

Andrew has quickly learned the DC role and effectively manages all the requests that come his way. He asks great questions and actively works to improve processes. We are grateful that he’s part of the team!

Matt Soltys, Clinical Assistant Professor
General Internal Medicine
Nominated by Jeydith Gutierrez

Dr. Soltys was covering Gold night at the VA, when our team had a patient who unexpectedly decompensated, a rapid response was called, patient needed transfer to the ICU, emergent treatment and ultimately coded. Dr. Soltys was extremely helpful and supportive to our team, not only providing an extra set of hands, helping with orders, and calling ICU staff, but also helping our team debrief and even taken an extra admission to help the team with the difficult situation. We are extremely thankful and appreciative of what he did!

Sanjana Dayal, Associate Professor
Hematology, Oncology, and Blood & Marrow Transplantation
Anonymous nomination

Dr. Dayal is a great mentor, leader, and researcher who creates a supportive and inspiring environment. Her guidance helps us grow and excel in our work. It’s an honor to learn from her.

Bianca Carlson, PA/ARNP/NNP Supervisor
Endocrinology and Metabolism
Nominated by Ayotunde Dokun

Bianca has been doing an excellent job as the lead APP in Endocrine.

Kristi Followwill Walker, Clinical Assistant Professor
General Internal Medicine
Anonymous nomination

Dr. Walker has been with us as a hospital medicine specialist at the University of Iowa for less than 2 years, but has already made a massive impact. Her clinical care and work with APPs and learners (residents, med students) has been exemplary. She also has taken on the role of scheduling physician lead in the hospital medicine group. She has shown empathy, creativity, and sometimes brilliance in both scheduling service coverage with limited staff, and covering for team illnesses and emergencies. I believe that there are physicians in the hospital medicine group who have stayed at Iowa specifically because Kristi helped them navigate scheduling challenges and unexpected events. Kristi’s work has helped make the hospital medicine group a stronger, more supportive environment for the whole team. We are lucky to have her, and she will be a vital leader at Iowa moving forward.

Cole Howie, Second-Year Resident

Always a team player, positive and supportive of co-residents and interns.
