New Faculty and APP Additions – 2025

The Department of Internal Medicine is pleased to introduce some of the department’s newest members, most of whom joined us between July and October 2025 (start dates in parentheses). The group below have joined the Division of Hospital Medicine. We are happy to welcome them to the department.

Ala Abdallah, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Ala Abdallah received his MD from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine in Amman, Jordan. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Abdallah joins the Hospital Medicine division with a strong foundation in acute care and internal medicine.


Anan Abu Rmilah, MBBCh, Clinical Assistant Pfrofessor (7/1/25)

Dr. Anan Abu Rmilah earned his MBBCh from Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt. He completed a postdoc research fellowship in Cardiology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by an internal medicine residency at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Mississippi where he earned a “Resident of the Year” award. He participated in well-known cardiology meetings and had multiple publications in prestigious journals. His background in cardiology research and hospital medicine enhances the division’s clinical and academic mission. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Abu Rmilah enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with family.


Ademola Ajibade, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Ademola Ajibade received his MD from All Saints University School of Medicine in Dominica. He completed his internal medicine residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. Dr. Ajibade brings a commitment to patient-centered care and clinical excellence to the Hospital Medicine team. His clinical and research interests include quality improvement in hospital medicine, cardiovascular outcomes, and healthcare delivery. Dr. Ajibade likes to travel during his downtime to explore different cultures and geographies.


Dorothy Amofa, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Dorothy Amofa earned her MD from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. She completed her internal medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at Rutgers Health, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey. She also completed a research fellowship in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging at Morristown Medical Center. Dr. Amofa’s experience with imaging strengthens the division’s diagnostic capabilities.


Matt Becker, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (10/1/25)

Dr. Matt Becker earned his MD from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He brings a strong connection to the institution and a commitment to high-quality patient care.


Michael Bejjani, MD, Instructor (7/1/25)

Dr. Michael Bejjani earned his MD from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He completed his internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Bejjani has a passion for academic medicine and clinical research. He enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and playing basketball.


Riley Burgart, DNP, ARNP, Nurse Practitioner (8/25/25)

Riley Burgart, ARNP, earned her BSN from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and her DNP from Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. Bringing over 5 years of experience from the CVICU as both a staff and charge nurse, she has a strong background in responding to high-acuity events with compassion and composure. Outside of work, Riley enjoys quality time with friends and family, attending Iowa sports events, and spending time with her dog, Benny. Riley is looking forward to gaining invaluable knowledge and experience from Iowa while caring for patients in their moments of greatest need.


Robert DeMuth, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/9/25)

Dr. Robert DeMuth received his MD from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. He completed his internal medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. DeMuth spent over 14 years in the US Army, including three combat deployments to Iraq as both a paratrooper and flight surgeon. He brings diverse clinical experience and a dedication to hospital medicine. In his free time, Dr. DeMuth enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and exploring state parks.


Saivishnu Doosetty, MBBS, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Saivishnu Doosetty received his MBBS from Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center in Bangalore, India. He completed his internal medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at KPC Health in Hemet, California. Dr. Doosetty brings a passion for hospital-based care to the Hospital Medicine division. Dr. Doosetty likes to spend time with family and friends, watch and play sports, and do outdoor activities during his downtime.


Thomas Elimihele, MBBS, MS, Clinical Assistant Professor (8/18/25)

Dr. Thomas Elimihele received his MBBS from Ambrose Alli University College of Medicine in Nigeria and an MS in Cancer Biology from the University of the District of Columbia, Washington, DC. He completed his internal medicine residency at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Joining the Division of Hospital Medicine, Dr. Elimihele brings a strong commitment to patient care. Dr. Elimihele enjoys spending time with his family and learning new things outside of the hospital.


Mubariz Hassan, MBBS, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/10/25)

Dr. Mubariz Hassan earned his MBBS from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed an internal medicine residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, followed by a fellowship in advanced non-invasive cardiac imaging at University of Iowa Health Care. His clinical interests include cardiac imaging and structural heart disease, while his research interests center on preventive cardiology, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives. In his spare time, he enjoys playing squash and hiking.


Zhexiang (Alex) He, DO, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Alex He earned his DO from the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Smith. He completed his internal medicine residency at Conway Regional Health System in Conway, Arkansas. He brings a holistic, patient-centered approach to internal medicine and is committed to providing high-quality care. Dr. He has a strong interest in clinical research, especially in new therapies and evolving treatment options. His goal is always to provide the most effective care and help his patients achieve better health outcomes. His personal philosophy is to stay positive, take responsibility, and strive to be a giver. Outside of work, he values spending time with his family and enjoys traveling with them to explore nature. He also likes fishing with his children as a way to relax and connect.


Sharon Jia, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (8/11/25)

Dr. Sharon Jia earned her MD from Penn State College of Medicine. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at WellSpan York Hospital, followed by fellowships in Emergency Medicine Ultrasound at Geisinger Medical Center and in Hospice and Palliative Care at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Jia brings a unique blend of acute care and compassionate end-of-life care to the division. In her free time, Dr. Jia enjoys gardening, trying different cuisines, and spoiling her cats.


Abdel-Rhman Mohamed, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Abdel-Rhman Mohamed received his MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Toledo in Ohio. Dr. Mohamed brings a patient-centered approach and a strong foundation in hospital medicine. Dr. Mohamed likes to spend his free time going out with the family and kids, cooking, playing basketball, and playing board games.


Zee Kuan “Grace” Ng, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (8/25/25)

Dr. Grace Ng earned her MD from Saint James School of Medicine in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and completed her Family Medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. With a well-rounded clinical skill set and a commitment to patient-centered care, Dr. Ng thrives in hospital medicine. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys pilates, exploring diverse cuisines, and snorkeling in various parts of the world to find the Nemos (clown fish).


Kimiya Nourian, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Kimiya Nourian earned her MD from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She completed her internal medicine residency at University of Iowa Health Care. Dr. Nourian brings a thoughtful and compassionate approach to inpatient care. Her free time activities include reading, yoga, biking, and hanging out with her dog, Milo.


Tilachan Parajuli, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (9/29/25)

Dr. Tilachan Parajuli earned his MBBS from Nepalgunj Medical College in Nepal and completed his internal medicine residency at MedStar Health in Baltimore, Maryland. He brings an international perspective and a patient-centered approach to care. When not working, Dr. Parajuli enjoys exploring the great outdoors through hiking, having trekked to iconic destinations like Mt. Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang Base Camps. Dr. Parajuli is also passionate about playing sports, particularly volleyball, soccer, and tennis.


Luke Schiller, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/31/25)

Dr. Luke Schiller earned his MD from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois. He brings a strong foundation in internal medicine and a commitment to clinical excellence. Dr. Schiller enjoys spending his free time watching the Hawks and participating in his own athletic activities!


Megan Vree, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Megan Vree earned her MD from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at University of Iowa Health Care. Dr. Vree brings a strong connection to the institution and a dedication to high-quality inpatient care.


Yana Zemkova, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor (7/1/25)

Dr. Yana Zemkova received her MD from the University of New Mexico. She completed her internal medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at University of Iowa Health Care. Dr. Zemkova brings a strong academic background and a passion for pulmonary medicine with clinical interests in airway management and sedation, procedural training, and point of care ultrasound. In her spare time, Dr. Zemkova likes to read, travel, and spend time with family.
