Recognizing Teaching Excellence

Learners in the Carver College of Medicine are invited to provide examples of effective teaching at the end of each rotation. Read what our trainees had to say about Internal Medicine educators over the past month.

San Chandra, MD, Resident
Submitted by Lily Westemeyer

Dr. Chandra was a remarkable teacher and leader on our team. She very deliberately curated an environment that never made us feel as though our learning was a burden or secondary goal. Her questions were thoughtful and appropriate to our current level, she made sure we felt supported, and she distilled information in a way that allowed me to take away so many key points. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her!

Took lots of time out of his day to answer questions, did focused teaching, and was overall a great mentor during transitions into clinical practice!

Dr. Maggio goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching. He allows students to ask and answer questions on rounds ensuring that each patient is well understood. He also took time out of his day to spend time teaching concepts students had questions on. Not only that, but he also went above and beyond for his patients through early engagement of palliative care, explaining things so his patients understood, and excelling in clinical excellency.

Extremely attentive and generous with her time, both with students and patients. Taught in a way that made me feel like I was coming to a conclusion myself rather than being told the answer, which made everything more fun!

Marta Tejedor, MD, MSc, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor, Gastroenterlogy and Hepatology
Submitted by Miranda Schene

Took time out of a busy inpatient day to give excellent teaching, and was very encouraging of questions and feedback. She gave a small teaching session on liver lesions, and it was so well organized and well explained that I understood concepts I’ve been trying to wrap my head around for weeks on my own. Also, she was very supportive of student learning and made me feel like a real part of the team! Thanks!
