Adviento earns ASAM scholarship

University of Iowa Health Care has a full range of specialists dedicated to studying and treating substance use disorders. And trainees, especially those within our combined Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program, are given opportunity to learn from experts in this field both here at Iowa and at regional and national conferences.

One such conference is the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s ASAM Virtual 2021 occurring in late April. Each year, ASAM awards as many as 20 addiction-medicine physicians-in-training with the Ruth Fox Scholarship. Third-year Medicine-Psychiatry resident Brigid Adviento, MD, has been selected as a 2021 Ruth Fox Scholar by ASAM.

This scholarship will cover Adviento’s registration costs as well as providing her with more than 70 CME hours of addiction medicine education and a three-year membership to ASAM. In a joint message to the department, Medicine-Psychiatry Residency Program Director Vicki Kijewski, MD, and Associate Program Director Andrea Weber, MD, wrote that they were “delighted” by this news. They went on: “We are excited about this opportunity for Dr. Adviento and hope you will join us in congratulating her on this prestigious award. Congratulations, Dr. Adviento!”
