Wenjie Yu, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the Welsh Lab in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Occupational Medicine, has won a prestigious Parker B. Francis (PBF) Fellowship in Pulmonary Research, sponsored by the Francis Family Foundation.
Yu will use this $225,000 award to pursue research on his project, Mechanisms of submucosal gland hypertrophy in muco-obstructive lung disease, under the mentorship of Michael Welsh, MD. The award will run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027.
“I am incredibly grateful for the Parker B. Francis foundation’s support, as well as the unwavering guidance and encouragement from my mentor, Dr. Michael Welsh, and the entire pulmonary division,” Yu said. “This fellowship grant will be instrumental in propelling my research into chronic lung disease forward.”
The PBF Fellowship provides research support to clinical and basic scientists with evidence of strong aptitude in research. Since awarding its first scholar in 1976, the PBF program has invested more than $72 million, supporting approximately 940 scientists in the United States and Canada.
When he announced this to the division, Director David Stoltz, MD, wrote, “This is a significant honor for Wenjie and an important recognition for the division, department, and institution.”
The last time a department member received a PBF Fellowship was in 2017. Find out who.
[…] Yu also earned a Parker B. Francis fellowship grant earlier this year to focus on Mechanisms of submucosal gland hypertrophy in muco-obstructive lung disease. The success of the findings through this ALA grant would support future investigation of mechanistic causes of airway gland pathogenesis in chronic airway disease. […]
