Welsh accepts the certificate naming him to the Wall of Scholarship

The Wall of Scholarship awards current CCOM faculty who are first or senior authors of published research articles that have made a significant impact in biomedical science, specifically for those papers that have been cited 1,000 or more times via Google Scholar, Scopus, and the Web of Science. In the 2023 calendar year, a publication from Michael Welsh, MD, professor in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine, received this distinction.

Impact Scholars are selected based on the Hirsch index, or H-index, which recognizes the number of articles a faculty member has written that have been cited 50 or more times. The H-index increases as the number of papers cited 50 or more times by the same author increases. Those scholars with an H-index of 50 or higher receive the silver-level distinction, and the Department of Internal Medicine was well-represented among recipients this year, with five faculty from across the department, and one with a secondary appointment in Internal Medicine, were among the ten to receive recognition this year.

The Carver College of Medicine Faculty Awards recognize individuals who have made exceptional contributions impacting their students, colleagues, and patients. Patrick McNamara, MB, BCH, BAO, DCH, MSc, MRCP, MRCPCH, received the 2023 Dr. Ernest O. Theilen Clinical Teaching and Service Award. McNamara holds dual appointments as professor in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Neonatology, and in Internal Medicine’s Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.

Honorees and their guests enjoyed a short reception in the sunlit MERF Atrium following the ceremony.
