The Department of Internal Medicine is pleased to introduce some of the newest members who joined us between January and June 2024 (start dates in parentheses). We are happy to welcome them to the department.
Samuel Gallo joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner, where he will care for patients at UI Health Care Downtown. He received his MSN from the University of Iowa College of Nursing.
Katherine Ignacio, MD (1/31/24)
Dr. Katherine Ignacio joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor, where she will care for patients at UI Health Care Downtown. Dr. Ignacio received her MD from De La Salle Health Sciences Institute in the Philippines, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. In her spare time, Dr. Ignacio enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling.
Dr. Ramon Ignacio joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor, where he will care for patients at UI Health Care Downtown. Dr. Ignacio received his medical degree from the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute in the Philippines, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Memorial Health-University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Vicki Jensen joined the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology as a Nurse Practitioner, where she will see patients at UI Health Care Downtown. She received her MSN from Allen College in Waterloo, Iowa.
David Kusner, MD, PhD (5/3/24)
Dr. David Kusner recently returned to the Division of Infectious Diseases as an Instructor, where he will see patients at UI Health Care Downtown. Dr. Kusner received his MD from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by an Internal Medicine Residency, Infectious Diseases Fellowship and Chief Residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. During his time at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Dr. Kusner served in many leadership roles, including Medical Staff President, Chief of the Medical Executive Committee, and the Committee on Antibiotic Stewardship. Dr. Kusner was previously a faculty member in Internal Medicine here until 2007, during which time he was a Professor of both Internal Medicine and Physiology and Biophysics. He also worked with the Holden Cancer Center, Molecular Biology Graduate Program, Immunology Graduate Program, and was Director of the Physician-Scientist Training Program from 2006-2007. When he’s not working, he enjoys swimming, hiking and time with family.
Ed Melcher joined the Cardiovascular Medicine division as a Nurse Practitioner, where he will see patients at UI Health Care Downtown. He received his MSN from the University of Iowa College of Nursing.
Dr. Joe Moonjely joined to the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor, where he sees patients at UI Health Care Coralville, Heartland Drive. Dr. Moonjely received his medical degree from the Government Medical College in Thrissur, Kerala, India, followed by Internal Medicine residency at New York University.
Pavida Pachariyanon, MD (6/25/24)
Dr. Pavida Pachariyanon has joined the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine after completing an Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology fellowship at University of Iowa Health Care. Dr. Pachariyanon received her MD from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Phramonkutklao College of Medicine and a Cardiology Fellowship at Navamindradhiraj University there. She also completed an Internal Medicine residency at Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas, and a Cardiology Fellowship at Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
Dr. Jane Rosen joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor, where she cares for patients at UI Health Care Downtown. Dr. Rosen received her MD/PhD degrees from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at North Shore LIJ-Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Outside of work, Dr. Rosen enjoys scuba diving, photography both on land and underwater, and adventure travel. At home, she loves cooking / baking, board games, bicycling, spending time with her husband and little dachshund, and creating functional yet beautiful objects in her pottery studio.
Dr. Max Snow joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor, where he cares for patients at UI Health Care Downtown. Dr. Snow received his MD from the American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten, followed by a Family Medicine residency at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
Dr. YiHui Wang has joined the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine as a Research Assistant Professor from a faculty position at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in China. Dr. Wang received an MD from Fujian Medical University, followed by a PhD in Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing. His research interests explore the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmia and heart failure. He likes to spend time with friends and family and enjoys swimming in his free time.
Dr. Jeannett Wu joined the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor, where she sees patients at UI Health Care Downtown. Dr. Wu received her MD from Far Eastern University Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation in Quezon City, Philippines, followed by an Internal Medicine residency at North General Hospital-Mt Sinai School Of Medicine in New York.
