For this year’s resident program winter social, residents and program administrators alike gathered their families and headed to Field Day, North Liberty’s newest craft brewery, for food and fun.
As kids filed into the room, they noticed the brightly colored duckpin bowling alley right away, tugging on their parents’ sleeves and asking to play. Taking full advantage of Field Day’s private event space, families nestled in the banquettes just behind the lanes. A bar lined the back of these seats, making for easy conversation with those playing along or mingling in the larger seating area.
A generous buffet of hot hors d’oeuvres was available through the evening, along with hosted sodas and iced tea. The mood was joyful and easy as colleagues and friends milled about, introducing their kids to one another merrily.
Third-Year Resident, Joe Phillips, MD, offered how much the residents really like spending time with one another, noting how nice it was to have a reason for everyone in the program to get together outside of work.
Vice Chair for Education and Director of the Residency Program, Manish Suneja, MD, spoke similarly. “The residents and the faculty members here are a family, not just inside the hospital, but outside the hospital. If you look around, there are a lot of residents with their kids, their significant others. And here we are celebrating just being together, and celebrating our life outside of the hospital.”
