Suneja inducted into ACCA

At the recent meeting of the American Clinical and Climatological Association (ACCA), inn Williamsburg, Virginia, Manish Suneja, MD, became its newest member. Suneja serves as the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, Vice Chair for Education, and Associate Dean for Medical Education Integration and Innovation in the Carver College of Medicine. The ACCA has existed since 1884 and was first organized by physicians and scientists to combat tuberculosis. This 250-member-body’s interests have since expanded to include epidemiology, preventive, and environmental medicine, including the impact global climate change has on human health and the spread of disease.

Members are chosen, in the ACCA’s words, “on the basis of their leadership, their excellence in their chosen field, their demonstrated high level of integrity and professionalism, and their yearning to nurture a spirit of warmth, diversity, and friendship.” It is fitting based on these criteria that Suneja has been selected to join this august and select group, which already included many other current and former members of Internal Medicine including Frank Abboud, Paul Rothman, Gerald DiBona, Donald Heistad, Peter Densen, Jack Stapleton, Patricia Winokur, Barry London, Chou-Long Huang, David Stoltz, Daniel Diekema, and Joseph Zabner.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to join such a distinguished and historic organization,” Suneja said. “The continued recognition of our colleagues speaks volumes about Iowa’s unwavering commitment to advancing science, education and scholarship.”
