Excerpt:
Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FLHCC) is a rare liver malignancy affecting adolescents and young adults, accounting for less than 1% of primary hepatic cancers. Unlike conventional hepatocellular carcinoma, FLHCC is typically not associated with cirrhosis or underlying liver disease.1 Consequently, causes of altered mental status such as hepatic encephalopathy are often overlooked in this population.
