Isabella Grumbach, MD, PhD, professor in Cardiovascular Medicine and Vice Chair for Research, was nominated and elected to the Association of University Cardiologists (AUC), a national organization for the country’s leaders in academic cardiology. As a member of the AUC, Grumbach will meet once a year in January for a two-day scientific discussion with other top cardiology investigators and educators. 

Founded in 1961, the AUC is highly selective, only accepting 135 active members from across the country. Grumbach rightfully earned her AUC membership, mentoring dozens of UI students, residents, junior faculty members, and researchers. Over the years, Grumbach’s research on cellular signaling pathways has been funded by the American Heart Association, National Institutes of Health, and Veterans Affairs.

Grumbach joins the AUC just as colleague Barry London, MD, PhD, begins his third and final year on the Council. UI’s Department of Internal Medicine has a long history of leadership and membership in the AUC. In addition to London, previous AUC members in Internal Medicine include Drs. François M. Abboud, Donald Heistad, Allyn Mark, and Peter Snyder. Mark served as President of the AUC from 1994–1995.
